Zolo Grill in Boulder, Colorado is one of the best restaurants I’ve eaten at in a long time. Restaurants these days seem to have lost touch with their customers and look only for turnover and what’s quick and cheap. There are a handful of places taking on the farm to table, fresh produce, local ingredients, pleasing the palate goal, including Zolo Grill. It’s becoming more and more popular to use what is locally available in an effort to provide the most fresh ingredients and holy delicious does it show! And let’s face it the number one thing we complain about after eating is the service; those delightful “I hate my life”, “I may of dropped your food on the ground”, and “I shall make eye contact with you but hell no you don’t get more water” type waiter/waitress’ do NOT exist here. By the time we left I would have invited our waiter to come on our next bike ride. Everyone was so friendly and willing to help any table they passed even if it wasn’t theres. They even pride themselves on Zolo Love; a welcoming, homey, love to surround you as you eat.

Before I even get to the main course lets chat about the AFGS; Aggressive Finger Grabbing Syndrome causing starters
Avocado & Cucumber Gazpacho 5
beet-guajillo chile sorbet, chipotle oil, cilantro
Chilled, the distinct flavor of avocado and cucumber with a hint of sweetness, refreshing with the most unique combination of sweet and bite. Like those delicious and creamy green bites weren’t heavenly enough, in a spurt of decadence glazed eyes I asked our darling waiter for the recipe thinking “haha i love begging for these with the polite no’s”…then he gave it to me!!! Obnoxious squeal and photo harassment of the rest of the meal is an understatement of my reaction.
Queso Fundido 9
warm queso, red pepper jam, poblano chiles, flour tortillas
Its like a treasure chest full of textures and flavors. This could very well be a cheese seductress used to convince even the toughest of guests to smile in sweet, spicy, cheesy ooze. A must order for sure. Also if you could order a jar of the red pepper jam and ship it directly to me, that would be most adored. (We ate it too quickly to take a picture…not sorry)
Now onto the main dish…I ordered the
Seared Tilapia Tacos 12
house corn tortillas, tomatillo salsa, avocado crema, black bean refritos
I wouldn’t call them the best fish taco’s I’ve ever had but they were definitely up there on my fish taco rankings. Full of flavor and packed with fresh ingredients, you can taste the love (and not the blood, sweat, and possibly pepper causing tears) that went into this dish. I also tried the Monday special the Duck Confit Tacos, these chef’s are in it for the pleasure business.
and let’s not forget sugar town…
Flourless Chocolate Cake 6
cinnamon meringue, whipped cream, peanuts
A perfect way to end a delicious dinner. I love flour less cakes, they’re much more dense and thick, almost brownie like. Twas unapologetic decadence.
Tip: They also have an amazing Tequila bar. Seeing as it was only 11 a.m., I had to ride my bike back to the hotel, and make my flight in a couple hours, I cantankerously declined a margarita. Okay, lets be honest, I only did because no one else ordered a drink.
Traveling and eating is all about opening your heart and soul to the people and their culture, you’re truly lucky when they let you in.
