I just recently got back from a trip to Texas for my cousins wedding. With the wedding in down town Fort Worth we thought spending a few extra days in town to explore would be a great short little get away. After landing in Dallas we headed straight to Mia’s, a casual Tex-Mex restaurant popular since 1981. With margaritas on the brain, Mia’s was a fabulous first stop; but with just a few days we knew each stop had to be well thought out to see the most we could, so it was a quick bite and drink and back into the car.
Starting in Dallas we stopped by the Pioneer Plaza Cattle Drive statues which were quite a site to see; 40 giant longhorn steers standing strong in their life like metal forms. We drove past the Grassy Knoll where President Kennedy was shot, strolled through Dallas down town and ended with a BBQ at my aunts house with the entire family.
Day 2 we headed for Forth Worth to the Stockyards Station. The Stockyards Station is a long strip of the best of Texas charm, from the historic country hotel, to the fully running train, to the twice a day long horn cattle drive. In my opinion a must see area away from the modern bars, restaurants and bustle city life. If you’re headed close to Dallas, Texas with just a short amount of time here are my suggested go to’s:
BBQ – Cooper’s Old Time Pit BBQ in Fort Worth. No-nonsense daily sold old menu. It’s a carnivore’s wet dream.
HISTORICAL – Stockyards Station. Dining, trains, long horn cattle drive, petting zoo and more.
SCULPTURE – Dallas Pioneer Plaza Cattle Drive. Amazing giant sculptures bringing the past into the modern city.
MEXICAN – Mia’s Tex-Mex, family owned and authentic dishes.
PARTY- Billy Bob’s Largest Honkey Tonk in the world is a Texas must experience. They have indoor real bull riding, country concerts, and good ole’ two stepping in cowboy boots.
