Happy National Beer Day!!
And hey, when you’re brewing your own beer everyday can be National Beer Day!
My family is a big lover of craft brews. We will go out of our way to find great breweries on vacation, spend a little more time at dinner to try a flight of flavors, and in the past few years we’ve become beer brewers ourselves. My brother and dad have been home brewers for a few years now and since I’ll be moving in the next couple months, I wanted to jump into the brewing game and learn it for myself! I knew I wanted to start small; one to learn, and two because I will be living in a small apartment and really only have space for the smaller 1 gallon batches.
There are a few places you can purchase these home brewing kits, but my favorite are the options from Uncommon Goods. They’re also where I got that awesome ravioli maker to make my homemade Shiitake Ravioli. They offer about 6 different beer flavors. I opted for the Chipotle Amber Ale and it turned out delicious!! The perfect combination of crisp with a kick for the upcoming Summer season.
With the step by step directions and additional videos provided, Uncommon Goods made my brewing experience super easy. These yield about 10 bottles and while that may not seem like much I like to think of it as my special limited addition treat that I can share with company who visit. “Come see my new apartment…and try my homemade brew!” Sounds pretty good right?
Here’s a sneak peak at what your brewing process will look like.
Okay so that’s just me super excited, here’s what it will really look like.
All the ingredients and supplies that came in the box.
grains
malt extract
hops
chipotle pepper! (if you get this flavor)
on to the fermenting stage
bottling was fun and definitely seek out a partner for an extra helping hand with this one!
I used our own bottles but you can purchase a bottling kit from Uncommon Goods as well. Sealed them tight… and let the waiting begin!
This was so much fun to make and would be a great housewarming gift for the beer lover in your life. It doesn’t matter how small your place is, just grab yourself a beer and get to brewing your own batch!
