When I wake up, and I’m feeling like there is no way in hell I could have a productive day when I can barely get my pants on, I usually turn to my morning coffee. Lately I’ve switched to tea and that fabricated “caffeine” label sometimes just doesn’t cut it. Along with cutting out coffee that rumbling noise about 15 minutes into my drive to work is not a pleasant feeling; therefore I needed to come up with something that would not only wake me up but fill me until my morning shake when I get to work, and then I found them….the Energizing Protein Balls. I mixed about 5 different recipes together to make these to my liking so don’t be afraid to switch it up a bit when you make them.
These ebony sticky baby balls are like a shot of espresso if they came with a giant meatball sub (ignore the taste your thinking, just think of the filling aspect). Enjoy!
How delicious do these nuts and seeds look! Almonds, Chia Seeds, Hemp Seeds, and Flax Seed are just some of the goodies in this morning snack.
Oh you think these look like little you know what… it’s okay you can say it. I can only make brown balls look so pretty. BUT try one and then tell me how very little you care about how they look. =)
INGREDIENTS:
1/3 cup ground coffee (I used 2 K-cups)
1/4 cup Chia Seeds
1/4 cup Hemp Seeds
1/4 cup Flax Seeds
1/3 cup almonds
1/4 cup honey
4 Tablespoons Raw Cocoa Powder
3 Scoops protein Powder
1/4 cup water
1 cup Medjool Dates
DIRECTIONS:
1. Blend coffee, chia, hemp, flax, and almonds together.
2. Add honey, Cocoa powder, and protein powder and pulse until mostly mixed.
3. Add water and medjool dates and blend until smooth.
4. Grab about a tablespoon of mixture and roll in your hands until you form smooth balls. (Makes about 12 balls) and ENJOY!
TIP: Run your hands under cold water just before rolling, this will keep the mixture from heating and sticking to your hands.
TIP2: Don’t eat one of these before bed, you won’t sleep.
Could you use instant coffee powder or is it just any ol’ coffee ground up finely?
Hello Sophie!
You can use any ground coffee, however I would not use a bitter coffee. It might give it a not so pleasant taste. Hope that helps!
